Rowling burns the Fry up
by Aliza
It has emerged that JK Rowling is not a woman to be crossed. Upon his first meeting with the renowned author, popular comedian Stephen Fry congratulated Rowling for selling enough copies to be granted a sequel to her first of the Harry Potter novels. ‘Good for you’ he told her, not realising the global success that the series would go on to have. Later, when recording the audiobooks Fry struggled with the phrase ‘Harry pocketed it’ repeatedly stumbling and instead saying ‘Harry pocketeded it’. After much struggling Fry called Rowling asking if he could alter the phrase, Rowling hesitated and replied ‘no’ before hanging up. The dreaded phrase then appeared in the next four books. Revenge by Rowling that any Slytherin would no doubt be impressed by.
Pratchett's Legacy
by Aliza
A petition has been started to name one of the new periodic elements after Terry Pratchett’s colour of magic ‘octarine’. The petition gathered 12,000 signatures in its first 2 days of existence. The elements will be named by the teams who discovered them but fans are hoping they will listen to their petition to name one in honour of the late author. The petition is currently at 43,000 signatures and is being supported by Pratchett’s assistant Rob Wilkins. The colour of magic features in Pratchett’s ‘Discworld’ series and is described as only visible to wizards or cats. The names of the elements are expected to be released in the coming months.
